After her graduation from college, she joined the KOMU-TV located in Columbia which was prior to joining the KTAL team in Shreveport in Louisiana. While working in the Bayou State, she was privileged to cover Hurricanes Gustav and Isaac and reported on the front lines of a national police-involved shooting in the town of Homer.
Among the nominations she has received includes one for team coverage spot and one for team coverage during Hurricane Mathew. She kickstarted her journalism career working in Dallas where she won numerous Young Authors Contests and showcased her charisma in plays at Duncanville High School. Among her most memorable interviews includes NFL wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and the Civil Rights Icon, and Andrew Young.
Among her biggest passions away from work is serving. In addition, he has mentored teen girls for years and gone on three international mission trips. While in Costa Rica, she also helped feed an entire village and take care of the Sunday school kids at their sister congregation. While in the Dominican Republic, her team also threw a Christmas party in a special-needs orphanage in addition to washing hair in a Haitian village which all is in addition to visited windows.
Simon serves as a Vice President with the Houston Association of Black Journalists and is also a big part of the Missouri Alumni Association. In addition, she serves as a mentor for the Houston ISD’s ROSES program. This program helps girls of color to navigate their educational and personal lives. Away from work, she also enjoys taking trips to HomeGoods, traveling, hanging out with her family, a Dalmatian named Sampson, and seafood.
