Prior to ABC13, he was working for the WTKR-TV, a CBS affiliate station located in Norfolk/Virginia Beach, where he was serving as a Weekend News co-anchor and Sports Director.

Previously, she was also working with the KWTX in Waco, and the KEYE-TV located in Austin teams. He kickstarted his career working with the KNOE-TV team located in Monroe, Louisiana in the year 2004. His Lone Star Emmy Award for On-Camera Talent is one of ten career Emmy nominations for Winkler. In addition, he has also been honored with the 19 Associated Press Broadcasters Awards in Louisiana, Virginia, and Texas.
In his successful journalism career, his award-winning coverage has featured everything from College World Series all the way to competitive tree climbers in addition to other stuff in between. Additionally, he has reported from the Superbowls longest basketball game in Big 12 history, XLVII, LI, LII, LIII, and LIV, in addition to the multiple Final Four.
His memorable assignment however has not been limited to sports. He has reported live from West of Texas on the 18th of April 2013 morning where he was following the town’s deadly fertilizer plant explosion which is in addition to covering the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in the year 2005. He has also assisted WTKR’s live coverage of the Virginia Beach mass shooting in the month of May 2019.
