Wayne Covil is an American anchor/reporter working for WTVR in Richmond, Virginia as a Senior Reporter. He joined the station on December 1, 1992.

Wayne Covil Career
Covil works at WTVR CBS 6 as the Senior Reporter. He worked as the station’s Tri-Cities Bureau Chief, for 11 and half years reporting Colonial Heights, Prince George County, Dinwiddie County, and Petersburg, Hopewell. He edits, records, and writes all his own stories.
Covil became Senior Reporter for the South’s First TV Station in July 2001 and while he continues to report the Tri-Cities, he also reports much of Central Virginia. He started his franchise series in 2019 Wayne’s World, which airs Wednesday Nights at 11 pm.
He has worked on various boards and commissions since 1992. Moreover, he is a retired member of the Public Information and Education Committee, a sub-committee to the Commonwealth’s Emergency Services Advisory Board. Covil graduated in 1987 with a BBA in Business Administration from Campbell University in Buies Creek N.C.
In 1994, he was named News Employee of the Year and has been named “News Employee of the Month” four times. Also the same year, he won a Virginia Associated Press Award for his year-long reports on the 1993 Tri-Cities Tornado and its aftermath.
He was nominated many times for Regional Emmy Awards. Covil joined CBS 6 after working for WNCT-TV 9 in North Carolina as the Jacksonville Bureau Chief for four and half years which included reporting Marine Corps. Prior to that, he worked for WJNC-1240am in Jacksonville NC as the Assistant News Director.
When he’s not working, he spent several years for Virginia Motorsports Park as the Track Announcer. He enjoys shooting the sport of “Skeet” and “Sporting Clays” in his off time.
