Cardwell works as a morning anchor at WTVR. He is originally from the beautiful city of Tampa, Florida. Cardwell joined the United States Air Force to pursue his dream of becoming a dentist, after graduating from Plant City High School. He chose a career change that was in order but after a couple of years elbow-deep in other people’s mouths.

He was accepted for cross-training in 1990 and became a distinguished graduate of the Armed Forces Defense Information School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Cardwell was shipped to Osan, South Korea by the Air Force where he was the DJ for a morning radio show (Good Morning, Osan!) and for the Armed Forces Korea Network television news in the afternoon produced news reports.

Cardwell was stationed at Tyndall AFB in Panama City, Florida in 1991. There, he left the Air Force and started working as a reporter and anchor for WJHG TV-7. He rode out hurricanes, during his seven years in the Florida panhandle. He reported crime, and local and state politics, and anchored both the morning and evening newscasts.

Additionally, he won individual and station Associated Press recognition. At that time, he freelanced for CBS radio, Live with Geraldo Rivera, Current Affair, CNN, and was the newsman for a local Talk Radio station.

He is involved with a number of annual local events and fund-raisers for state and community organizations and is a member of Ironbridge Baptist Church in Chester, Virginia. When he’s not working, he enjoys fishing, hiking, camping, and spending time with his family.
