Handly works for WRC-TV NBC4 as a weekday evening news anchor appearing on the 6 and 11 PM newscasts on the News4 program. In the year 2022, Handly marked 3 decades with NBC4 – most of that time he worked as an anchor for evening news and covered local stories.
When he joined the station, Handly became the very 1st news anchor for “News4 Today” weekend editions. 2 years later, he helped launch “News4 at 4:30 p.m.” – this program later expanded to 60 minutes. He co-anchored that show with Pat Lawson Muse for nearly 2 decades before switching to include “News4 at 11” in his schedule. Since the year 2006, Handly has also been the news anchor for “News4 at 5”. In the year 2014, NBC sent him to Russia to report on the Winter Olympics for viewers in the Washington area.
He has won several Emmys and has reported from places like the the Caribbean, Russia, and Middle East. In Washington, D.C., Handly has reported on 7 presidential inaugurations, major breaking news, many election nights, several hurricanes, and 4 papal visits. As a sports fan, he has loved reporting on the Super Bowl, Olympics, and especially the Nationals’ and Capitals’ championship wins.
While in Washington, Handly has supported several organizations like Education Foundation, the Washington Tennis, Humane Rescue Alliance, Thanks USA (this gives scholarships to military families), and Junior Tennis Champions Center in Maryland. For over 2 decades, Handly has also hosted the Blue Bird Blues Festival in Prince George’s County. Before joining WRC-TV, Handly worked at the CBS station in Hartford/New Haven, CT as a news reporter and anchor. He started his career in broadcasting at WPTV (NBC station) in West Palm Beach, FL.
