Shutt has also been forecasting the weather on WHUR 96.3 FM in Washington DC since the year 1988. In addition, he has been serving as a weather forecaster for All-News 99.1 WNEW.

Before joining WUSA, he served at WUSA’s sister station, WFMY-TV in Greensboro, North Carolina. There he worked as a weekend weather anchor. Before that, he worked for WTVK-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee as a weekday weather anchor for 3 years (1984-1987). Shutt started his broadcasting career at CNN in Atlanta, where he served as a substitute weather anchor and weather producer for 3 years (1981-1984).

Shutt started forecasting the weather while he was in grade 5. In the year 1988, the American Meteorological Society (AMS) honored him with their Seal of Approval for both radio and TV. For 6 years (1994-2000), Shutt filled in for Craig Allen and Mark McEwen on the CBS network program, “CBS This Morning.”

Shutt co-founded a company, “Automated Weather Source,” in the year 1992, which places automated weather stations in elementary schools throughout the Metropolitan Area. Shutt is a volunteer. He regularly speaks about meteorology at rotary clubs and area schools and emcees at multiple other charitable causes. During his leisure, he likes being at the golf course or skiing.
