In 1989, Padgett joined O’Fallon Township High School where he attained his High School Diploma in 1992. He later on joined West Illinois University in 1992 and attained his Bachelor of Science in Meteorology in 1996.

Padgett serves as the Chief Meteorologist at CBS 11 based in Dallas, Texas. Prior to joining KTVT-TV, Padgett worked at WPLG based in Miami, Florida where he served as the morning and noon meteorologist. During his tenure at WPLG, he was also in charge of leading the morning team during severe weather coverages. He had previously spent about 2 years and 1 month working at KOKH FOX 25, where he served as the chief meteorologist based in Oklahoma.
Padgett worked at KOKH FOX 25 from March 2006 to March 2008 and during this time, he also led and organized the station’s storm-chasing team. From 2003 to March 2006, he worked at WVTV based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he served as a meteorologist. Prior to that, he worked at KVWB based in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 2004 to March 2006. He also spent some time working at WTTO based in Birmingham, Alabama where he served as a meteorologist from 2003 till his departure in January 2004.
Padgett previously worked at WLEX-TV based in Lexington, Kentucky where he served as a meteorologist from May 2000 to September 2002. While working at WLEX-TV, he also anchored the morning and noon newscasts and hosted Let’s Do Lunch. From April 1999 to May 2000, he worked at WPSD Local 6 where he served as a feature reporter and meteorologist based in Paducah, Kentucky.
Padgett previously worked at WBKO based in Bowling Green, Kentucky where he served as the weekend evening anchor. He also edited and reported local feature stories as well as weather forecasts. From March 1996 to April 1997, he worked at KFXA FOX 28 based in Dubuque, IA, and served as a meteorologist and the weekend evening anchor. He is also an active member of the American Meteorological Society as well as the National Weather Association. Padgett has also won several awards and honors including the Seal of Approval of the American Meteorological Society in 2006.
