Lee Goldberg Career

Goldberg serves WCSH 6 as the co-anchor of News Center, Maine’s Morning Report. He joined the station in 1993. Upon joining the station, he initially served as a sports director at WLBZ 2 in Bangor. While serving in Maine, he broadcasted some of the major stories in New England history. For example, seven Super Bowls and three World Series.

Further, he was accessible when the Patriots gained Super Bowls in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2015, and 2017. Moreover, he witnessed the Red Sox’s magnificent comeback against the New York Yankees in the 2004 ALCS. Also, their subsequent World Series victory. Additionally, he was in Denver when the Sox beat the Rockies for the World Series title in 2007. Else, he was at Fenway Park for the Sox’s Series victory in 2013.

In addition, in 1993 he generated and hosted the initial HS Football wrap-up show in Maine when the 5th Quarter commenced. It progresses as the longest-running HS Football wrap-up show in New England. Furthermore, his additions to journalism were acknowledged by the New England Emmys. Plus, the Maine Association of Broadcasters and the Associated Press.

The Maine Athletic Directors’ Association dubbed him Media Person of the Year. Also, he secured the Readers Choice Best Local TV Sports Anchor award for DownEast Magazine from 2012 to 2016. Prior to serving NEWS CENTER Maine, he served -TV in Clarksburg, West Virginia at WBOY-TV from 1991 to 1993 as sports director.

When he is not working, he serves as a volunteer with the Maine Children’s Cancer Program, Sweetser, KIDS First, The Cromwell Center, and The IRIS Network among others. Moreover, he voices that Bruce had the biggest effect on shaping his career as a journalist. Bruce Glasier. I grew up watching Bruce when I was a kid and always wanted to be on TV and go to games for a living like he did. That led to my current career which is at 27 years and counting, 19 of those years spent working side by side with Bruce.”

Further, his favorite New England sports souvenir was when he broadcasted 3 World Series and 7 Super Bowls. “Having covered seven Super Bowls and three World Series, that’s a tough one. I will say, it’s a tie. The 2004 Red Sox win was a borderline religious experience as the 86-year drought was finally broken. But the Patriots’ win over the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI was right there at the top. That was the year of 9/11, and the nation rallied around the Patriots who were the biggest Super Bowl underdogs in history at the time. U2 played at halftime and scrolled the names of all of the victims of 9/11 on a giant screen. That game transcended sports. And the Patriots won! So those two are the best memories for me.”
