McQuade works at WTVR in Richmond, Virginia as a military/political affairs reporter. He is living his dream every day by showing up for work. He wanted to become a television news reporter since he was young. With over twenty-five years of experience in tv, he enjoyed a front-row seat to life.

In 1997, he took his first job as a reporter and received 56 Emmy Awards, five National Edward R. Murrow Awards, and 42 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards. At WTVR, he juggles many different responsibilities for example; on Thursdays, he produces two weekly franchises “Heroes Among Us” and on Fridays he has stories.

On Saturdays and Sundays, he anchors the “CBS6 Weekend Morning” show with his colleague who is meteorologist Mike Stone. In 1989, he graduated from Bunker Hill Community College. McQuade received a broadcast journalism degree in 1992 from Northeastern University in Boston.

He gained much experience in the field, During his college years. He landed a position at KLHI-FM 101 in 1991 as an overnight disc jockey. For seven months, he worked in Ireland, Belfast, Dublin, and Northern Ireland during an exchange program called, “Ireland: North and South.” As a representative in the Irish Parliament, he worked as a political intern while studying at the Institute of Public Administration in Dublin.

He studied at Queen’s University and worked with the BBC’s “Good Morning Ulster” radio program in Belfast as an intern. McQuade paid for tuition during his college days in Boston by selling popcorn and ice cream at the historic Boston Garden during Celtics and Bruins home games.

After graduating, he landed an entry-level position at WBZ-TV in Boston as a video archivist. It was such a treat working with many of the journalists he admired. He moved to Bangor, Maine in 1997 for his first full-time on-air reporting job at WVII-TV. He came back to Boston to work as a weekend reporter at NECN in 1998.

McQuade reported a wide range of New England and national stories including the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles. One of the most unforgettable moments during his tenure at NECN was interviewing Buzz Aldrin, the second human to walk on the moon, and the former Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

He transitioned to Richmond after accepting a job at WTVR in October 2000 as a military/political affairs reporter. He traveled across the pond to England to explore the historic link between the U.K. and Virginia in the spring of 2005. The aging Lord Cornwallis, the great-great-great-grandson of Lord Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington in Yorktown, Virginia which ended the Revolutionary War was one of the most fascinating interviews he conducted during his time spent in England.

McQuade had the incredible opportunity to come back to England in 2007 and work at the BBC in Kent, England. He has had the pleasure of producing a segment called “Heroes Among Us” every week since 2014. When he is not working, he likes to travel the world and hunt for Civil War relics with his metal detector on old battlefields.
