He is also an active member of the American Meteorological Society and is also a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist. While still working at WSPA-TV, he also worked in the Society’s Board of Broadcast Meteorology where he helped their Committee on the Station Scientist. Moreover, he is also a three-time president of the Society’s Upstate Chapter.

He officially kickstarted his journalism career by working at KSWO-TV in Lawton, OK/Wichita Falls, TX where he served as the weekend meteorologist for a year and a half. In December 1993, he joined KOAM-TV in Joplin, MO/Pittsburg, KS where he served as the chief meteorologist till 2000. While still working at KOAM-TV, he was an active member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Project Impact campaign. Later, from 2000 to 2004, he worked at KXDG-FM in Joplin where he served as a radio personality.
