As a five-year-old girl, she didn’t understand what was being reported, but she knew the men and women on television news had respect, access, confidence, and the answers. seemed they had it all. Castillo got her first taste of reporting while in San Francisco’s Excelsior District and her only viewers were her parents. She would deliver detailed reports about the mischief her brothers got into. However, she wasn’t the favorite sibling. After graduating Amanda moved to Casper, Wyoming. During her stay in Casper, she wore many hats. del edited, produced, anchored, and reported. She fell in love with the “Cowboy State” and culture and also fell in love with her husband-to-be, who worked at a competing station.
Afterward, the industry took her next in Waco, Texas where she served as a Multi-Media Journalist and weekend anchor. She also did it at all editing, producing, anchoring, and reporting. Amanda was then awarded for her reporting in Waco by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters Association. She covered the Twin Peaks biker shootout, and developments stemming from the West Fertilizer Plant explosion and contributed to the station’s live coverage of Baylor University’s alleged sexual assault cases.
Castillo made her way back to the Rocky Mountain region and worked in Denver, Colorado as a reporter. While there she covered the terribly cold winters, the Taylor Swift trial, and other issues impacting one of the most beautiful states she has ever called home. del contribution to the station’s breaking news coverage on the most difficult assignment she has ever worked on as a journalist she won an Emmy Award.
