Her reporting on a Metro Family that lost their home in a gas explosion attained a Heartland Emmy Award in 2021. Also, she has gained a number of honors. For instance, the National Academy of Television Journalists awarded her for excellence in feature reporting, and honors from the Society of Professional Journalists. And, she was dubbed“Oklahoma’s Journalist of the Year.” Further, she has been honored by the Girl Scouts of America as a “Woman of Distinction.”
Additionally, her series of reports on breast cancer can be located on display at the National Museum of Broadcast Journalism Center in Chicago. Moreover, she serves as a motivational speaker and the author of two books for teen girls. Recently, she served as a host of the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon. Furthermore, she served as a member of the board of directors for the Baptist Foundation of Oklahoma.
To boot, she yearly volunteers for the Special Olympics and numerous other charitable organizations. However, her personal spotlight was when she was given the chance to speak to more than 7,000 Oklahoma students attending the Falls Creek Church Camp in the summer of 1997. Else, she is an accomplished equestrian and has competed in rodeos in both Oklahoma and Texas for over 12 years.
