Aaron was born and raised in Florida, the United States. She says she now loves her name. But way back in her elementary school she didn’t like it because teachers could barely pronounce it. Kumasi is named after the city of Kumasi in the West African country of Ghana. Her mother happened to see the name in a book, liked it, and decided that would be a great name for her daughter. Her mother vetoed her dad who was planning to name her Clarissa. But his father got to name his brothers, Joe and John.

Aaron attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University where she studied accounting and earned a Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Later after a summer internship left her stuck behind a desk all day, she decided to find something that could allow her to meet interesting people, be creative, and be out and about and she thought of Journalism. Afterward, in January 2020, she joined the University of Denver where she graduated in June 2022 with a Master of Arts in Communication Management.

Aaron is the morning anchor and reporter for KGO-TV. After graduating with her accounting degree, she couldn’t a job in TV News. Therefore, she got a post-graduate internship at ABC News which led her to work behind the scenes at WABC and NBC Nightly News. Kumasi says it was the best training she could have had. It helped her develop her passion to tell compelling and impactful stories.
Kumasi began her first on-air job in Fayetteville, Arkansas where she served as an Anchor and Reporter. She then went back to her home state Florida and worked as an Anchor and reporter in Jacksonville. While there it is when she started to wear her natural hair on air for the first time. She says it feels so good to be her authentic self, and she realized part of her work would be encouraging others by example to do the same.
Afterward, she went west to Denver where she served as a National Correspondent and Anchor with The E.W. Scripps Company. While in the company her role took her all across the country where she covered stories such as the presidential inauguration, the Ghost Ship Fire in Oakland, and Hurricane Irma. She really enjoyed her national assignments and she is looking forward to building relationships in communities throughout the Bay Area and telling the stories of the people she meets.
