At a young age, it became clear to him that his dreams of playing point guard in the NBA or tailback in the NFL were a long shot, therefore he decided the next best thing would be talking about sports.
Larry began his journalism career while at the University of Hawaii, where he worked on the student newspaper and campus radio station. While on the islands, he covered everything including sumo wrestling, play-by-play of his beloved UH Warriors, and erupting volcanoes. He moved to Nothern California just in time to experience the earthquake of 1989 and was actually driving through the Caldecott Tunnel during the quake (it didn’t move an inch, by the way).
After working for years at KTVU he left for ESPN and spent the next 6 years hosting SportsCenter alongside Keith Olbermann, Dan Patrick, and Robin Roberts just to mention a few. People always asked why he would ever leave national television to return to local TV but it was all about location and lifestyle for him. So in 2001, he happily went back to the Bay Area to work for ABC7 News. During his free time, he enjoys watching sports and working out.
