Campbell is a weekday anchor for NBC-2 News Today starting at 4:30 am. The Emmy award-winning anchor began his career in Charleston South Carolina, where she covered stories from Tropical storms to American Idol Auditions. Afterward, he moved to Texas to work at KRGV, the ABC affiliate in the Rio Grande Valley as a morning anchor. While there he won several AP awards for best newscast and covered stories about the cartels, immigration, drug, and human trafficking.
After working in Texas for four years, Alan moved to Detroit, Michigan, “Motor City”, where he worked as the 5 pm anchor and reported for the late newscast while also filling in as a primary anchor. While in Detroit, Michigan Campbell covered stories about the development of autonomous vehicles, crime, the death of Aretha Franklin, and the re-birth of the city.
Campbell remembers many stories but the one that sticks out is a story in Detroit of a young boy who saved his younger brother after falling into a pool. The older brother performed CPR on his younger brother after watching the movie San Andreas featuring Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson. After the story aired, Johnson got wind of the boy’s heroic actions and invited the entire family to the set of Skyscraper, filming in Vancouver, Canada. The family was overjoyed for the brothers to meet their hero. To this day the brothers share a bond like no other.
For 6 years Alan worked on cruise ships, traveling the world before he began his journalism career. He has a French Bulldog named Sonni, who he says is spoiled beyond belief.
