Will Jones Career
Jones is working with the ABC7 team as a Race and Culture Reporter since January of 2021. In his role as a Race and Culture Reporter, he was working alongside a team of reporters and executive producers with the ABC Owned Television Station’s race and culture unit on special projects for the station group. Additionally, while at ABC7, Will was also covering a variety of stories which include the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series in the year 2016, and the civil unrest after the killing of George Floyd.
Prior to moving to Chicago, he was working with the WDIV-TV team located in Detroit, Michigan. There, he was able to receive a Michigan Regional Emmy for Historical/Cultural News for a report on asylum-seekers at Freedom House Detroit. In addition, he spent several hours weekly volunteering at the non-profit helping the new arrivals adjust to American life and also learn English.
Additionally, he has worked for the WHNS-TV team located in Greenville, South Carolina where he was working as a reporter for the station. In addition, he also worked with WSAZ-TV located in Charleston, West Virginia. He is a proud graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism. After his graduation, he kick-started his career working on the assignment desk for WXIX-TV located in his hometown Cincinnati, Ohio.
Jones serves as a board member with the National Association of Black Journalists, the Chicago Chapter. While serving on the Board, he led the Scholarship committee is awarding thousands of dollars to college students pursuing careers in journalism. This chapter received the NABJ Chapter of the Year Award in the year 2018. He also remains an active member of the NABJ-CC and NABJ.
