Pickett serves as an anchor and reporter at CBS 11 based in Dallas, Texas. Prior to working at CBS 11, he worked at KGW-TV based in Portland, Oregon where he served as a news reporter from July 1993 to February 1996. He had previously spent about 7 years and 9 months working at KFSN-TV ABC 30 based in Fresno, California where he served as a news reporter.
While still working at KFSN, he also served as a fill-in anchor and enclosed several street gang stories. In 2010, Pickett went to Haiti alongside a group of Dallas physicians and covered the effects of the destructive earthquake. He also covered the Dallas Independent School District and the academic and educational landscape of North Texas.
Moreover, he is an active member of The National Association of Black Journalists. He has also won several awards and honors including 4 Emmy Awards for enclosing the Haiti earthquake, the war in Iraq, and Hurricane Katrina. He was also honored by The University of Oklahoma Black Alumni Society, The Poynter Institute, and The Institute for Educational Inquiry. In 1983, he joined The University of Oklahoma where he attained his Bachelor of Arts in Radio-TV-Film in 1983.
