Prior to working at Arizona Family, he worked at KPHO-TV CBS5 in Phoenix, Arizona where he served as a weeknight news anchor and reporter at 5, 5:30, 6:30, and 10 pm. Prior to these roles, she served as a chief meteorologist and as the 6:30 pm news anchor. During his tenure at KPHO-TV, he managed to enclose several stories including the San Diego wildfires in 2007.
McLaughlin had previously spent 6 years and 3 months working at CBS News based in New York where he served as a fill-in meteorologist from October 2006 to December 2012. From May 2004 to July 2006, he worked at NBC News|MSNBC in New York where he served as a weekday main meteorologist and Weekend TODAY Show host. Prior to that, he worked at KPNX-TV 12News where he served as the chief meteorologist and evening anchor from December 1992 to May 2004.
From 1988 to 1992, he worked at KMIR-TV NBC6 where he served as a weather anchor and reporter. Over the years, he has managed to enclose several stories including numerous Super Bowls and Olympic Games. McLaughlin also received 11 regional Emmy awards.
