McDonnell works as a morning news anchor at 12 News. He worked for WFXT-TV in Boston as an anchor and reporter before joining the station. Prior to that, he worked for KMBC 9 News in Kansas City and News8 in Connecticut reporting some of the biggest stories of our time on the forefront of breaking news, including the trial of George Zimmerman and the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
After the shooting of Michael Brown and anchored six hours of continuous report of the riots in Boston following the death of George Floyd, he reported the riots in Ferguson, Mo. McDonnell attended the University of Rhode Island where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and a Minor in Philosophy.
