Mai works for 12News as an anchor anchoring at Noon and First @ 4, which airs on Monday to Friday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. She began her career at KABC in Los Angeles in 1995 as a production assistant. Her first reporting job was at WOFL in Orlando, FL out of the Gainesville bureau.
After one year, she worked at CFN-13 out of the Volusia County Bureau in Florida. Then, she transitioned to Columbus, OH where she worked for three years as a reporter and weekend anchor prior to joining KPNX in 2003. Throughout her career, she has been honored with Emmys for anchoring and reporting and has been selected for several Emmys.
Lately, she was honored for being the Best Anchor in 2019. Moreover, she has a Casey Award and awards from the Ohio Society of Professional Journalism. A Saigon, Vietnam native, Mai graduated with a minor in Asian American Studies from UCLA, majoring in communication studies.
Mai has reported some of the biggest stories including; the hurricanes in Florida, the death of Senator John McCain, and Arizona’s historic ‘Red for Ed’ teacher walkout in Arizona. Mai and Regis Philbin have interviewed many celebrities and reported the Arizona Cardinals when they went to the Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida, and the red carpet for the Emmys in Los Angeles.
