While ABC7/KGO-TV she has covered the kidnapping of Denise Huskins that Vallejo police mistakenly called a hoax. Melanie broke several stories around the case including the lead detective being named Officer of the Year. Still, in Vallejo, she also covered the police shooting of Sean Monterrosa by an officer who fired from the backseat through the windshield of an unmarked police vehicle. She exposed that the Vallejo Police Department waited 38.5 hours to announce Monterrosa’s death, even though he was pronounced dead one hour after the shooting.
Previously before joining the KGO-TV team, she worked at KTVU where Melanie served as an investigative reporter. Before moving to the Bay Area she worked in Los Angeles as an investigative reporter and producer for the nationally syndicated daytime medical talk show “The Doctors.” Woodrow also served at CBS Newspath in Los Angeles. Prior to making a move west, She worked at Wavy News 10 in Norfolk, Virginia where she served as a reporter and weekend anchor and a morning anchor and reporter at WHAG in Hagerstown, MD.
Melanie got a start in the business as a production assistant working at MSNBC. Before she worked at an investment bank in NYC. September 11, 2001, was her first day of work at the bank. Shortly thereafter she realized she wanted to be a reporter and after finishing a 2-year analyst program at the bank she made the career switch. During her free time, she teaches Yoga.
