He became a member of the 3 News Now Weather Alert Team in December 2017, marking his return to the Midwest, where he relishes the warm summers and snow-filled winters. After enduring several cold and snowy winters in Ohio, Mark embarked on a journey southward, kickstarting his television career in San Angelo, Texas. Over nearly four years in Texas, he specialized in forecasting the scorching heat and severe storms resulting from the notorious dry line—a common phenomenon in the Southern Plains that demarcates the arid desert air from the moisture-laden Gulf of Mexico air.
During his tenure in Texas, Mark attained the prestigious designation of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society (AMS). The AMS bestows this honor upon broadcast meteorologists who meet stringent criteria, demonstrating both scientific proficiency and effective communication skills in their weather presentations. Subsequently, Mark ventured to Lexington, Kentucky, renowned for its thoroughbred horse farms and the production of bourbon. Here, he dedicated more than two years to forecasting the weather characteristics of the region, including spring storms and winter snowfall.
Afterward, Mark made his way back to the southern United States, taking on a role in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Although this period coincided with the notably active 2017 hurricane season, the most significant weather events in the area did not stem from named storms. Mark played a pivotal role on air, devoting hours to tracking the tornadoes that ravaged the region during the outbreaks of February 2016 and February 2017. Baton Rouge and its neighboring cities also grappled with historic flooding in August 2016 when over 20 inches of rainfall inundated the area.
