Gordon Loesch Career
Loesch anchors at WPXI and co-anchors Channel 11 News Morning News and at noon. Before that, he worked as the 10 p.m., noon, and weekend evening news anchor. He attended Central Michigan University where he later graduated. Let’s say he began his career in 5th grade because he used to deliver newspapers for the Iron Mountain Daily News.
While in high school and college, he worked at radio stations in Iron Mountain, at WWTV in Cadillac-Traverse City, Michigan as a reporter and photographer, and at Mt Pleasant, MI as a newscaster and DJ. He served as a weekend anchor and then changed his position to a morning anchor at WKBN in Youngstown, Ohio.
Then, he worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor at WXYZ in Detroit. He is a six-time Emmy Award winner. He has been recognized with the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, Golden Quill awards in breaking news, features, best reporter categories, and Edward R. Murrow.
One of his most unforgettable stories is the western Pennsylvania flood of 2004 when he and his photographer witnessed the dramatic rescue of a deaf and physically impaired woman who was trapped in her car in floodwaters.
Loesch has reported some of the biggest stories in Pittsburgh over the past 20 years, including anchoring live reports of the Fern Hollow Bridge collapse and the mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue.
He has covered life in the aftermath of everything from floods, tornadoes, and winter storms to house explosions and presidential visits. Loesch traveled to report gubernatorial and U.S. Senate election night results in the New Hampshire Presidential Primary, Allentown, York, Philadelphia, and Harrisburg.
He was the only Pittsburgh television reporter to follow local athletes to the Olympic Games in Vancouver and Pyeongchang, Rio de Janeiro. Loesch volunteers for many local charity events.
When he is not working, he is either recovering from the latest in a never-ending series of injuries while training, or competing in marathons, 50k’s, Ironman triathlons, and 100-mile run trail races.
