Gene states that the all-local and all-morning blend of traffic, weather, and news started out as an alternative to national morning shows and has grown into the “go-to” newscast for busy morning people.
He takes great pride in preparing New Englanders for their day. Gene states that anchoring most of a six-hour local morning newscast allows him to alert viewers to breaking news, and provide context and perspective on the big stories of the day. This is in addition to being allowed to hone one of his finest skills, floating Dad Jokes.
In addition to this, he field-anchored Boston 25 Morning News’ popular Zip Trips for the past 14 seasons. Prior to joining the Boston 25 Morning News, he had spent about ten years as a Sports Director and Lead Sports Anchor at WHDH-TV in Boston. In addition to this, he hosted the popular Sunday Night Sports Xtra Show.
Asides from this, he previously spent time working for WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island serving as a Sports Anchor. Asides from this, he worked for WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, Florida. In addition to this, he formerly served as the host of WSBK-TV’s Boston Bruins telecasts.
The proud citizen of Walpole is an active member of the community of Walpole. Asides from this, he is a board member of the Friends of Walpole Community Athletic Complex. This is a group that has worked tirelessly to raise funds and build new fields at Walpole High School and make improvements at recreational sports fields throughout the city.
Previously, he also served as a spokesperson for The Independence 5k Walk and Run, the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress, and The Buddy Walk. The Independence 5k Walk and Run supports programs for adults and children with developmental disabilities in more than 11 communities across the Bay States. Asides from this, he was named “Person of the Year” back in the year 2012 by the Friends of St. Patrick organization for his community work in Walpole.
As for his education, Lavanchy attended Emerson College where he studied between 1982 and 1986. There, he was privileged to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications and Broadcast Journalism.
