McFarland serves KVOA as a meteorologist and multimedia journalist. He joined the NBC affiliate in December 2019. Additionally, he has the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal from the American Meteorological Society. And, is the only person in Tucson who holds the seal. Prior to KVOA, he served in Macon as a morning meteorologist for WGXA.
During his streak there, he provided coverage for the direct effects of Hurricanes Michael and Irma. Also, he has broadcasted a number of huge tornado outbreaks, counting the outbreak of January 2017, where Middle, witnessed 40 confirmed touchdowns in just 24 hours. Furthermore, he has served WBKO in Bowling Green. During his teen years, he tracked ocean swells and started surfing when he was only 8 years old.
While on Pensacola beach, his interest in weather developed. This was a result of weather events such as the 2004-2005 hurricane season. For instance, Hurricane Ivan ruined his childhood home and he wanted to learn the cause of the untamed storms. When he is not working, he loves going to the gym, hiking around the Tucson mountains, and hanging out with his wife and their two dogs.
