Furthermore, Since 1988, he has been with KOLR TV in Springfield, serving as its Sports Director for the past 25 years. Additionally, Lucy’s involvement extends beyond TV; he has contributed to the Missouri State University TV broadcast team, hosted MSU football and basketball coaches shows, and served as a correspondent for the Missouri Valley Conference.
Throughout his career, Lucy has covered a multitude of prestigious events, including eight World Series, a Super Bowl, a PGA Championship, two MLB All-Star Games, and an NHL All-Star Game, alongside NCAA basketball tournaments. In addition to national events, he remains dedicated to covering local sports, which are important to the Ozarks community.
Lucy’s integrity shines through in his reporting. He openly acknowledges sources, even crediting local papers when they beat him to a story. Notably, he broke the news in 1995 about the hiring of former Indiana Hoosiers star Steve Alford as the Missouri State basketball coach.
Additionally, beyond his professional accomplishments, Lucy has made meaningful contributions to his community. For two decades, he has hosted the Boys & Girls Club’s Steak & Steak fundraising dinner. Moreover, after overcoming prostate cancer in 2014, he emerged as a symbol of resilience and hope, earning him the moniker “Vintage Lucy.”

Growing up as the son of a U.S. Army colonel, he traversed the country, never settling in one place for long. Despite his nomadic upbringing, Lucy found solace in Springfield, where he established roots and forged lasting connections.
His journey into sports broadcasting began during his high school years in Omaha, Nebraska, where he contributed to the newspaper and yearbook staff and a local TV station. This trajectory continued at the University of Missouri, where he freelanced and worked for the student-run TV station. Moreover, Lucy’s big break came at KOMU, where he seized the opportunity to anchor nightly sports broadcasts, reshuffling his schedule to accommodate the role.
In 1988, Lucy applied for a sports director position at KSPR in Springfield, but fate led him to KOLR 10 TV, where he found success under the guidance of Scott Opfer. Despite covering a range of athletes, from high school standouts to small-college hopefuls, Lucy remained committed to delivering quality content within tight deadlines, a testament to his dedication and professionalism.
