She says that she feels proud to be part of this station, where she shares local stories about climate and science while also working with the First Alert Weather Team. Before joining NBC 7, she worked at KSBY TV as a Morning Weather Anchor, Morning Anchor, and Multimedia Journalist (this was from January 2016 to September 2021). She also served as a Social Media Manager at Fastapp AMC (September 2021 – April 2023). Earlier in her career, she worked as a News Writer and Assignment Editor at NBCUniversal, Inc. (from May 2015 to January 2016) and previously interned there also (January 2015 – May 2015).
Martell was a Staff Writer for “The Daily Aztec” (September 2014 – May 2015) and held multiple roles at KPBS, including Production Assistant (August 2014 – May 2015) and Membership Marketing Assistant (May 2014 – August 2014). She also volunteered as an Event Coordinator for WitKids, Inc. (February 2014 – June 2014). Additionally, she was Vice President of Public Relations for Alpha Kappa Psi (April 2013 – May 2014) and took on event coordination roles for TEDx (June 2013 – January 2014) and (November 2012 – April 2013). Martell spent her childhood in San Luis Obispo County dancing, playing sports, and musical theatre performing. With a passion for the storytelling and arts, Martell knew early on that she aspired for a career in TV. Over the years of Martell’s career, she has reported on many wildfires in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties. One of these wildfire include the Thomas Fire of the year 2017 that burned over 280K acres in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. Less than a month later (on January 9, 2018) a devastating debris flow swept through Montecito, CA, unaliving 23 lives and destroying homes. Witnessing the impact of these disasters firsthand inspired Martell to pursue a career as a meteorologist.
