Nichols is a weekday news anchor for CBC News Network between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM ET. Since May 2004, he has been based in Toronto working as the station’s newsroom reporter, Anchor, field reporter for both television and CBC Radio One, and a regular fill-in host of Radio One’s Cross Country Check Up. While in the station Andrew has covered several major news stories including, the highly anticipated and widely watched Shafia family guilty verdict and the breaking news of the Paris attacks in November 2015.
As the country came to grips with the sudden death of the NDP leader Andrew also had the challenging task of reading Jack Layton’s Letter to Canadians live and “cold” in the air. A happier moment: reveling in the euphoria shared with other Canadians celebrating the “Golden Goal” by Sidney Crosby in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
Nichols has also covered numerous big stories at News Network’s predecessor CBC Newsworld. He was the first to deliver the news of the death of Pope John Paul II in 2004 to Canadians, the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, and Conrad Black’s verdict in 2007.
