She also obtained a minor in Scientific Perspectives and Japanese Studies. While there, she was a proud member of the Asian American Journalists Association, Saint Luke Catholic Church, and Sigma Kappa Sorority.
Sonu Wasu Career
Wasu works with ABC15 News where he serves the station as a Multimedia Journalist. She kick-started her career while she was in college at the University of California, San Diego. This was after her internship turned into a news writing job.
Through her reporting adventures, she has been privileged to travel to Ohio; Tucson, Arizona, Montana, and Tennessee. She has also covered blizzards, ice storms, and tornadoes. Among her most memorable stories include a coal mining disaster in the Appalachian Mountains while walking the same trails used by drug smugglers. This was in the unforgiving Sonoran desert. Asides from this, she also witnessed two executions of death row inmates in the State of Arizona.
While she was in Tucson, she was privileged to win two Associated Press Awards, three Edward R. Murrow Awards, and Rocky Mountain Regional Emmy. This was for hard news reporting and feature reporting. The Award-Winning stories took her to Nogales, Mexico where she interviewed deported migrants in the tunnels and washes.
While there, she was waiting for night to fall so they could try to sneak back into the U.S. again. Sonu has worked hard in order to win the trust of human trafficking survivors and exposed a side of Tucson nightlife many did not know existed. She also won a feature reporting award for talking to the families of some of the youngest medical marijuana cardholders in Arizona. Among them included babies who suffered dozens of seizures a week.
The year 2015 saw him being honored with a Paladin Community Service Award for the work she did in exposing human trafficking to the community. She is a first-generation American citizen. However, she is fluent in Hindi and Japanese languages. Wasu marked a mean Chicken Tikka Masala and loves watching cheesy Bollywood films.
