Rusty McCranie is an American Meteorologist working for WFTV Channel 9 News in Orlando, Florida as a Morning and Noon Meteorologist. He joined the station in November 2013.

McCranie is a proud graduate of the University of Florida where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Telecommunication News. Asides from this, he also attended Mississippi State’s Broadcast Meteorology program. McCraine is a proud member of the American Meteorological Society(AMS). He holds the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist(CBM) Seal from the AMS.
Rusty McCranie Career
McCranie works for WFTV Channel 9 News where he serves the station as a Morning and Noon Meteorologist. There, he forecasts the 7-9 AM Weather News and the Noon Weather Newscasts. He states that joining the Eyewitness News team is like coming back home for him since he is a Florida native.
Rusty states that he knows what Florida weather can bring as he has experienced several hurricanes. This is in addition to being flooded out of their home during the “No Name Storm of the year 1993.” Asides from working with the WFTV team, one may also catch him on WRDQ-TV from 7-9 AM and occasionally on Eyewitness News Daybreak.
Prior to joining the Eyewitness News team, he was working with KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City where he worked between March 2007 and July 2013. There, he was serving the station as a Weekend Evening Meteorologist and Severe Weather Expert. He states that Oklahoma City is the severe weather capital of the world. While there, he helped his viewers through the EF 5 tornadoes, large hail storms, floods, and blizzards. He states that he is looking forward to bringing that invaluable experience to central Florida.
Previously, he also worked with KRCG in Jefferson City as a Meteorologist. There, he served the station between 2005 and 2007. Asides from this, he has worked with WDHN-TV in Dothan, Alabama where he was serving the station as a Chief Meteorologist. There, he worked between 2004 and 2005. This is in addition to working with Capital News 9 in Albany, NY. He served the station as a Meteorologist between 2002 and 2003.
Asides from this, he has worked with WLOX-TV in Biloxi, Mississippi where he was serving as a Meteorologist. There, he worked between 1999 and 2002. He has also worked with WDTV-TV in Clarksburg, WV. There, he was serving the station as a Meteorologist between 1998 and 1999.
McCranie states that one cannot be a Floridian and not love the water. He thinks that he is close to catching every type of offshore waters that Florida has to offer. Asides from his journalism career, he plays on the WFTV “Niners” softball team. There, he plays on the left field. Asides from this, he has also taken an interest in all things Italian. He is learning the Italian language and hopes to put his language skills to use one day when he gets to travel there.
