Gillespie works for ABC Columbia as a sports director. His dream is to one day play college and professional basketball. All he wanted while growing up was suit up for Billy Donovan. For his sports passion he needed an outlet so he began an internship in the sports department at WCJB, TV-20 at the end of his sophomore season.

Since 2014 he has called Columbia home. Gillespie began as the weekend sports anchor/reporter at ABC Columbia, and in June of 2016 got promoted to sports director. Apart from running the day-to-day operations and production of ABC Columbia’s multimedia sports platforms, he also manages the station’s position of main sports anchor and host of Gamecock Saturday Night.

Gillespie has been fortunate to report some of the biggest sporting events in the United States, including two National Championships, Zion Williamson’s rise through the basketball ranks, a men’s and women’s Final Four, five Masters Tournaments and four College Football Playoffs.

Prior to joining the station, he worked at the Independent News Network in Davenport, Iowa as the Sports Director/Main Sports Anchor, where he anchored and produced five sportscasts per day, overseeing sports content and operations for the network. From the University of Florida, he earned a bachelor’s degree of telecommunications and master’s of multimedia journalism where he spent five years as an anchor and play-by-play announcer for the Florida Gators/IMG Sports Network.
