Karnow is a meteorologist for KRON4. He brings nearly 20 years of San Francisco Bay Area to weather reporting and anchoring experience to KRON4 News. He joined the station as part of the weekend news team. Before joining KRON4, he worked at KPIX, as a weekend weather anchor and weekday morning weather anchor for 18 years.
For his morning-long coverage of the March 2011 tsunami as it hit the Bay Area after Japan’s massive earthquake Lawrence won an Emmy Award for Best Weather Anchor. While working at KPIX the former substitute teacher also frequently visited Bay Area schools to give students a lesson about the weather, then feature them in his live weather segment on the noon news.
Karnow started his career at KSBW in Salinas. While there he forecasted the weather for the weekend, and then, the weekday morning newscasts. He even reported on Central Coast agricultural stories at one point. He says the weather has been his passion for as long as he can remember.
Lawrence knew that he wanted to be a meteorologist while attending elementary after he saw lightning strike a garbage can outside his home one night. In 2015 he created his own app so that users can stay connected to different parts of the world.
