She went to the University of Nebraska where she attained her Bachelor of Arts in journalism and minors in political science, history, and English. Johnson serves as the 5 p.m. & 11 p.m. news co-anchor at WCBS based in New York City. In addition to this role, she is also serving as the weekly fill-in anchor for “CBS Mornings” and “CBS Sunday Morning.”
On joining WCBS-TV in 2006, she started off by serving as the noon and 5 p.m. newscasts co-anchor alongside Chris Wragge. The following year, (June 2007) she and Wragge replaced Jim Rosenfield and Dana Tyler on anchoring the 11 p.m. newscast. Since joining WCBS New York, she has covered several stories including breaking news events, the Boston Marathon bombings, Hurricane Sandy, two separate papal visits to the Big Apple, and the Newtown school massacre. She also went to London, England, UK where she covered Elizabeth II’s funeral preparations.
Johnson kickstarted her journalism career working at WPRI based in Providence, Rhode Island where she served as a reporter and anchor. She later left WPRI in 2005 and joined NBC where she served as an anchor for NBC’s Early Today and First Look on MSNBC. She also served on NBC’s Weekend Today as an alternating news anchor. Kristine left NBC on October 20, 2006, after NBC publicized that the network would cut 700 jobs. She has also won several awards including two Emmy Nominations as a producer.
