With over 20 years of experience in television news, Kirk has a rich background. Before joining WWMT, he served as the morning and noon show anchor for WSBT-TV in South Bend, Indiana, covering part of Southwest Michigan.
Kirk’s journalistic prowess was recognized by the Associated Press, naming him Indiana’s best reporter. He was also commended for an investigative piece highlighting concerns about the safety of a local community’s drinking water. Kirk’s reporting adventures have taken him far and wide. He accompanied Indiana’s former Gov. Joe Kernan to Vietnam on a poignant journey to locate the village where Kernan’s plane was shot down during the war.
Kirk also had the privilege of covering the White House ceremony honoring the University of Notre Dame women’s basketball team’s national championship win. Additionally, he visited Fort Hood, Texas, to report on local military reservists’ efforts in safeguarding the base after the events of September 11, 2001. Before his tenure in South Bend, Kirk contributed his talents to KSPR-TV in Springfield, Missouri, and WFJW-TV in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
From January 1998 to April 2000, he worked as both a sports anchor and news reporter at KSPR-TV. During his time there, he was responsible for anchoring weekend sportscasts and covering news stories throughout the week. His duties included arranging interviews, filming footage, writing scripts, and editing content for broadcast. He was selected for the position by the news director due to his willingness to take on diverse responsibilities, including anchoring sports and reporting news, to advance to a larger media market. His ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team and his readiness to tackle new challenges set him apart from other applicants for the role.
