He went to Vincennes University and Indiana State University where he attained his Bachelor’s Degree. Orpurt serves as the weeknight meteorologist at WTHI-TV based in Terre Haute, Indiana. He previously served the station in the promotion department and was later promoted to serving as the News 10 Midday meteorologist, and host, and did fill-in work on the nightly news. During his tenure at WTHI-TV, he has covered a lot of extreme weather events and stories including the Great Flood of 2008, the drought of 1988, and the snow and cold of January 2014.
Prior to working at WTHI-TV, he worked at several radio stations where he served as a disc jockey. He kickstarted his journalism career working at WARU radio in Peru, Indiana where he served as a reporter and dick jockey at the age of 15. Since he started his journalism career, he has won several awards and honors including the Abe Malooly Award, the Hamilton Award, and the Seal of Approval of the American Meteorology Society. He also received nominations by the Ohio Valley Emmys and received the best weathercast by the Indiana Broadcasters’ Association.
