Kobielusz is a Meteorologist working for KOMU 8 in Columbia, Missouri. Her passion for weather ignited in 2011 when her house narrowly escaped the path of the Good Friday Tornado by a mere mile. In the aftermath, she volunteered alongside her mother and her colleagues, dedicating her time to crafting sack lunches and gathering donations from local businesses to aid in the community’s recovery. These experiences crystallized her desire to make a lasting impact by assisting people in weather preparedness throughout her life.
Although she spent substantial time in mid-Missouri for various camps and competitions, attending MU was never on her radar until she visited and instantly fell in love with the campus’s beauty and the vibrant community it offered. Despite her inherent shyness, the prospect of becoming a broadcast meteorologist wasn’t something she initially envisioned. She had always preferred to work behind the scenes.
However, during her sophomore year, she decided to step out of her comfort zone and apply for an internship at KOMU 8, a decision she has never regretted. Away from the station, you’ll often find her playing the clarinet as a member of Marching Mizzou, savoring coffee at one of Columbia’s charming coffee shops, or taking leisurely walks with her dog, Doppler.
