Raised in Phoenix, Hermosillo attended Camelback High School and Creighton Elementary. Later on, she joined Arizona State University Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications. There, she was majoring in Broadcast Journalism. Later on, she moved to Mississippi State University where she received a certification in Broadcast Meteorology.

Hermosillo works with ABC15 News serving the station as a Weekday Meteorologist for ABC15 Mornings. She joined the station after spending several years covering severe weather in the Midwest. Hermosillo has also been in the broadcast industry for more than 10 years starting her professional career in Joplin, Missouri. Asides from this, she spent a few years forecasting in Kansas City, Missouri.
In the course of her career, Iris has experienced forecasting all types of weather, with everything from severe storms and tornadoes to ice storms, and ice storms. She now focuses her efforts on tracking our dangerous monsoon storms and forecasting the excessive heat we often feel in the Valley. Asides from this, she is passionate about keeping people safe and informed about the weather, especially when it becomes threatening.
When she was working in Kansas City, she was one of the first Kansas City reporters to arrive in Joplin after the 2011 tornado. The tornado tore through the center of the town. This was one of the toughest stories she has ever covered. Hermosillo also calls the experience a reminder that a meteorologist’s number one priority is to make sure viewers are safe and prepared ahead of the storm.
She states that television meteorologists are often the scientists people turn to for weather information and therefore Iris knows that this makes her role a critical one. She also uses her platform in order to deliver accurate forecasts that prepare people for day-to-day changes.
Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling around the state, cheering on various sports teams, eating at new Valley restaurants, and working on house projects. Growing up in Phoenix, she was an Arizona Cardinals, Diamondbacks, and Phoenix Suns fan. She, however, also roots for Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, her husband’s home teams.
