Elissa Rivas is an American Anchor/Reporter working with the ABC13 News Team in Houston where she works as a Traffic and News Anchor/Reporter for the evening newscasts since February 2003. After working for a period of time in the Southwest area, she is thrilled to be back in Houston her home.

She kick-started her career working as a news reporter/anchor in Yuma, Arizona where she was working with the KYMA-TV News Team. However, her heart was longing for Texas and she, therefore, returned to the Lone Star State in order to live and work in El Paso. While there, she was covering the intense impact of the 9-11 attacks on immigration and the border traffic.
She counts herself lucky to have been recognized for her work and has received the regional and national RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Award for her coverage of child abduction and murder in El Paso. Additionally, for her work documenting teenage alcohol and substance abuse she was able to earn a National Communicator Award of Distinction and a First Place award in Serious Feature reporting from the Texas Associated Press.
She is very proud of the Adult Reading Center of Pearland as her parents impressed upon her the importance of education. Additionally, she emcees Red Hat Literacy Luncheon annually, which is in addition to honoring her commitment to the Adult Reading Center they started a scholarship in her name, “The Elissa Rivas Scholarship Fund.” This scholarship honors the coverage and drive of the clients who have learned to read as adults and they fund their continued education, the GED, community college, and many more. She is now working as a full-time journalist and is a full-time mom.
