She got her first on-air job at the U.S. Senate Radio-TV Gallery and at NBC Network News in Washington. From there, she moved to New England to work as an on-camera reporter. While in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, she reported on several national stories such as the historic vote on gay marriage in Boston, M.A., and the Station Nightclub fire in Rhode Island that claimed a hundred lives.
While in Baltimore, she was named Baltimore’s Best Reporter in the year 2009. Her unforgettable story that she covered in Baltimore was the story of a woman and her daughter who lived in a home that did not have electricity or running water. Goncalves got them into a safe shelter. Also, she provided reports on the homeless in Washington, D.C., where she assisted individuals to reunite families and get off the streets.
