Custer serves as the weeknight 5 pm, 5:30 pm, 6 pm & 11 pm anchor at WNEM-TV in Michigan. In addition to these roles, he also serves as the writer, reporter, and editor for the main shows in the evening at the station. Prior to joining WNEM-TV, he worked at Country Home Creations Inc. where he served as the director of marketing and Public relations from August 2009 to October 2013.
From June 2008 to August 2009, he worked at WNWO Barring Broadcasting based in Toledo, Ohio where he served as the main anchor. During his tenure at WNWO, he also served as the 6 pm, 7 pm, and 11 pm co-anchor. He had previously spent about 4 years and 3 months working at WSMH FOX66/WNEM where he served as a reporter as well as an anchor based in Flint, Michigan. From October 2002 to June 2003, he worked at WBKB-TV 11 where he served as an anchor and reporter.
Custer has also won a ton of awards and honors including nine regional Emmy Awards. In 2018, he received the Great Lakes Bay Region’s Ruby Award and was also voted Mid-Michigan’s BEST News Anchor. In 2019 and 2020, the Great Lakes Bay Magazine tagged him “Greatest News Anchor.” In addition to that, he also won numerous Associated Press and Michigan Association of Broadcasters Awards. Moreover, in 2015, Great Lakes Pride tagged him “Champion of Pride.”
