Christopher Heath Career
Heath works for WFTV Channel 9 News where he serves the station as an Investigative and Political Reporter. His focus as an Investigative Reporter is to uncover corruption and wasteful spending across Central Florida as part of the Eyewitness News 9 Investigates coverage. Prior to joining the Eyewitness News team, he was working South in Ohio.
Despite the move from Ohio to Florida being a major change for him, most of his life has been spent in the Lone Star State. He has also previously worked as a Reporter in San Antonio where he was honored by the Associated Press. This was for his investigation into the growing dangers faced by firefighters as a result of new cars and consumer safety systems.
Prior to working in San Antonio, he was working as a Reporter in Waco, Texas where he honed his skills. There, he focused on the government and the military, specifically Fort Hood. His coverage of the US Army led him to New Orleans where he spent a week with the First Cavalry Division as soldiers carried out rescue and recovery missions in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
After about six months of returning from New Orleans, he was sent to Iraq with the Fourth Infantry Division to cover combat missions as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. For about two months, he crisscrossed Iraq while following soldiers on aid missions, raids, and some rare time for a little “R&R.” These included a game of softball in the shadow of one of Saddam Hussein’s palaces.
Later on, after about three years of returning home from Iraq, he was once again dispatched to Fort Hood while covering a shooting spree that left 13 people dead and more than 32 people injured. Heath is also always looking forward on the lookout for compelling stories that have the opportunity to bring about positive change for the community. Away from work, he enjoys playing hockey, taking the dogs to the dog park, and running.
