Kim serves at WABC Eyewitness News as a news reporter. Over the years with the station, he has reported on various significant national breaking stories such as the September 2016 Chelsea terrorist bombing, where he was the 1st journalist on the scene. In the year 2017, he reported on the massive spontaneous protest at JFK Airport. The protests happened as a result of the response to Donald Trump’s travel ban executive order. Kim has also provided extensive coverage of poverty in the Asian-American community in N.Y.
Before joining WABC – ABC7NY, he served at News 12 Westchester/Hudson Valley as a news reporter. There he was responsible for leading the station’s report on the Metro-North train crash that killed 6 people, in January 2015. Kim started his journalism career at NY1 News in New York City, in the year 2003, where he served as a field producer and photographer.
While at NY1, he traveled to New Hampshire and Iowa in the ear 2008 to report on the presidential campaigns of Barack Obama, Rudolph Giuliani, and Hillary Clinton. He was also responsible for co-producing the 2006 gubernatorial general election debate of Eliot Spitzer, the 2006 senatorial debate of Hillary Clinton, and the primary debate in his run for State Attorney General of Andrew Cuomo. Kim made the Bloomberg administration admit New York City’s response to the storm had been inadequate, after his exclusive story about a lady who lost her life while waiting for EMTs during the “Christmas Blizzard” of 2010.
When coming to Kim’s education, he is a proud graduate of New York University. He attended the university in 1999 and graduated 4 years later with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in broadcast journalism. Away from journalism, Kim is also a United States veteran who worked as an Army Reserve Sergeant. He is a graduate of the Academy of Non-Commissioned Officers on the List of Commandants. Kim is actively involved in the Asian American Journalists Association, where he is a co-chair of its Media Watch Committee.
