Watts serves as the Chief Meteorologist at WDBJ based in Roanoke, Virginia. He started serving as a chief meteorologist in October 2004. On joining WDBJ in October 1997, he started off by serving as a news photographer and editor till May 2002. In this role, he also wrote, shot, and edited material for web content as well as broadcast for social channels. His next role was to serve as a meteorologist and digital content producer from May 2003 to October 2025.
Since joining WDBJ in 1997, he has enclosed a ton of extreme weather events including tornado outbreaks in 2018, 2016, 2011, and 2004. He also enclosed the 2012 Derecho and tropical storms. Brent is also the owner of the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval (AMS). He has also won other awards and honors including 3 Emmy Awards for covering the Flood of 1985, the 2012 Derecho, and Hurricane Michael.
