On January 25th, 2022, Nunnally announced that he was diagnosed with cancer. He went on to reveal that he would be taking some time off the TV to undergo treatment.

I will tell you all that I have cancer and am going to be dealing with that in a pretty big way over the next, hopefully, month or so. I’m not exactly sure how long the treatment is going to last. But I do have to have chemo to help fight this, and it looks good. My doctors say it looks good for me” he voiced.

It gives me strength and makes me feel better.” In August 2020, he underwent chemotherapy and has radiation every day as a mode of treatment for his ailment at Columbus Oncology and Hematology.

There have been speculations of Nunnally retiring and leaving the station due to his absence. However, he has not made any comment on this. Nunnally filed a lawsuit against fellow meteorologist, Jym Ganahl in November 2012 in Franklin County Common Pleas Court. The suit accused Ganahl and possibly a third party of generating false statements that maimed Nunnally in his “trade or profession” and revealed him to “ridicule, hatred or contempt.”Ganahl served Channel 4, the NBC affiliate, for 33 years and was the station’s chief meteorologist. However, the suit was settled as per the documents filed in the case. Moreover, the records state that their attorneys reached a settlement but provide no details.
