Aliyu serves KGTV as an evening anchor alongside longtime anchor Kimberly Hunt. He joined 10 News in October 2022. Prior to this, he served Boston 25 News as a reporter and an anchor. In three years, he navigated viewers through the COVID-19 pandemic, nightly protests following the murder of George Floyd, and a few deep playoff runs. Also, he generated a number of series showcasing the challenges of policing in Massachusetts prior to and succeeding in 2020.

Moreover, he served at WNBC in the Big Apple as a reporter. During his time there, he served on the front of breaking news. For instance, two helicopter crashes, various New Year’s Eve celebrations, a fire at Trump Tower, and a run of shady packages that turned up throughout the city. Also, he conveyed the extensive broadcast of the trial of the Mexican drug kingpin, “El Chapo.”

Before WNBC, he served in Ohio for six years Ohio reporting at Cleveland’s WKYC-TV and Dayton’s WKEF-TV and WRGT-TV. In addition to that, he assisted lead his station’s broadcast of the dire police-involved shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice. Else, he served as the initial journalist Rice’s mother trusted for an interview. To boot, he reported from the 2016 Republican National Convention.

One of his most unforgettable moments in Cleveland was reporting live after the Cavaliers’ 2016 World Championship victory, ending the city’s 52-year championship dry spell. Nonetheless, he started his career in Columbia, Missouri where he wrote and reported for a number of news outlets there from radio and tv to digital platforms counting Newsy.com.

Further, he serves as a member of the National Association of Black Journalists San Diego chapter. Annually, he goes to his alma mater to coach likely college students who want to serve as a journalist. When he is not working, he loves dancing, playing basketball, writing, and performing poetry.
