Johnson serves as the evening anchor for WAPT-TV in Jackson, Mississippi, where he currently leads the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts, delivering breaking news and leading coverage of major events in Central Mississippi. He joined the station in 2018 as the 5 p.m. anchor and nightside reporter, bringing decades of experience across major markets in radio and television.
Since becoming a member of the 16 WAPT News team, Johnson has earned multiple honors, including Mississippi News Anchor of the Year in 2023, 2024, and 2026. He also received first place for Excellence in Broadcasting in Continuing Coverage for reporting on the Coronavirus pandemic.
Prior to joining 16 WAPT, Johnson anchored midday newscasts, produced daily news content, and delivered live breaking coverage at WBAL NewsRadio 1090 in Baltimore, MD (November 2015 to October 2018). He also co-hosted the Big Phat Morning Show, one of the city’s top-rated programs on 92Q (Baltimore).
His early career roles included working at CBS FM Talk 105.7, where he hosted a news and current affairs program; as Executive Director of People 75, the city’s public access television station; and as a news anchor at CBS Radio WNEW 99.1 in Washington, D.C. He also Anchored morning news at WHUR 96.3 FM in Washington, D.C., hosted The Daily Drum, and contributed to NBC 4’s “Talk Around Town.” Notably, Johnson began his career in Indianapolis at WTLC, working for his father, and his first on-air job was at Majic 108 in St. Louis
