Florendo developed a love and passion for journalism at a very young age. At the age of 14 years, he had a trip to a Seattle TV newsroom and he was gripped. He remembers the sounds of typing, the sights, printers, and phones. Florendo figured out how it would be enchanting and compelling to work inside a fast-paced newsroom.
Prior to joining the KLAS-TV team, he served at NBC 10 in Philadelphia as a reporter and meteorologist for one year and six months from August 2013 to February 2015. Upon college graduation from Washington State University, he got his first on-air gig in a small station in Yakima, Washington where he worked as a reporter. After a period of time, he was elevated to morning weather anchor. During that time, he covered major storms in the Pacific Northwest. From there, he headed to Green Bay, Wisconsin to work for WFRV. In the course of his time there, he chased EF-2 Tornadoes and stood in frigid weather to do live shots for the Weather Channel.
In 2004, he was employed by 8 News Now for his expertise and experience in forecasting flash floods and severe storms. His experience helped in saving lives and forecasting dangerous summer monsoons. After graduating from Mississippi State University, he landed a job at WCAU in Philadelphia in 2013. While there, he served as the weekend meteorologist. He says, “It was definitely one of the hardest places in America to forecast. It also happened to be the worst winter in East Coast history. Forecasting Nor’easters, hurricanes, and ice storms definitely made me a better meteorologist.”
During his leisure time or when he is not busy chasing out storms, you will find him snowboarding, Mountain Biking, or traveling.
