McInerney serves as the morning meteorologist and is on air at 4:30-7:00 am Monday to Friday at WMTW-TV based in Portland, Maine. Prior to working at WMTW, he worked at CBS 42 based in Birmingham, Alabama where he served as a meteorologist from March 2011 to December 2015. He previously worked at WHBF-TV based in Davenport, Iowa where he served as a weekend meteorologist, fill in Weather Anchor, and covered dangerous Midwest severe weather including a tornado warning for a metro area.
Upon joining WHBF-TV in December 2007 he started off by serving as a general assignment reporter and photographer. In this role, he covered the 2008 Election in Iowa and Illinois, The Great Midwest Flood of 2008, and traveled with an Honor Flight to Washington, DC in October 2009. Previously, from September 2006 to May 2007, he worked at BSC-TV based in Buffalo, New York where he served a sa weathercaster. He is also an active member of the National Weather Association & American Meteorological Society.
Since he started his journalism career, he has covered several extreme weather events including Lake Erie churning out large snowstorms. He also forecasted brutally cold winters and severe storms in spring while at WHBF-TV. He also enclosed the February 2011 biggest mid-west blizzards, flooding along the Mississippi River, the warm climate of Alabama, and the April 27th, 2011 tornadoes. He has also won several awards and honors including the Buffalo State Updraft Award for Excellence in Meteorology in 2007.
