Prior to joining WKMG-TV, he was working with Florida Highway Patrol where he served an eight-year assignment. During his time there, he was patrolling Volusia counties, Seminole, Lake, Brevard, Orange, and Osceola along with the Orlando area of the Florida Turnpike. Later he started doing public speaking engagements after he was assigned to the Florida Highway Patrol Motorcycle Unit. He found his passion for community involvement.
Montiero became the face of FHP in Orlando after that experience. He was made an assistant Public Affairs Officer by Lt. Kim Montes. Montiero became “Trooper Steve” across the Sunshine State over the last several years. He likes hanging out with kids in hopes of spreading the word about safe-decision making in hopes of saving just one life. In addition, he does everything from corporate events to interviews on WKMG.
