Scurlock earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Central Arkansas at Conway. At the University of Memphis in the Department of Journalism she worked as an adjunct professor. Scurlock works for WREG News Channel 3 as an Anchor/Reporter. When she first joined the station, she worked as a reporter. Before joining the station, she worked for KTAL-TV in Texarkana, TX. She is the only Memphis reporter to report the case of the West Memphis 3 since their arrests and convictions in 1994 until their release after 15 years.
What she loves about her job is connecting with viewers through social media. For her work on WREG’s Memphis on a Mission project, she earned a Regional Emmy. Furthermore, The TN Associated Press recognized her for her work. Also, for her exclusive story following the difficulties of a man fighting off drug addiction, she was awarded the Best Enterprise.
Scurlock works for RISE a charitable organization that helps Memphians achieve financial self-sufficiency as a board member. Also, she worked as the Honorary Chair of the NAACP Membership Campaign. She is a member of the Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, The Links, Incorporated, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the Memphis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
She has reported stories all over the Mid-South and has traveled as far as the continent of Africa for her reporting duties. She went to report on a humanitarian mission together with the Tennessee Air National Guard to Dakar, Senegal. Scurlock helped a man bring his sick wife and children from Senegal to Memphis so she could seek medical treatment.
